Calling Shotgun
After leaving a building and while walking towards the car, an occupant-to-be may reserve the front passenger seat by calling out “Shotgun.” Seats in the back of the car may be reserved in the same manner (i.e. “Back right,” etc.), and all passengers must honor and respect the calling of shotgun.
Terms & Conditions:
- Shotgun must be called while outside or in the parking garage as passengers areĀ walking towards the car, and thus cannot be called far in advance.
- When shotgun is legitimately disputed, the driver or owner of the car has the authority to settle said disputes.
- If two or more passengers tie when calling shotgun, a race to the car determines who rides shotgun.
- The shotgun passenger acknowledges that they become responsible for the comfort of the vehicle passengers by controlling the radio and climate controls, however, once again, the driver has final say in these matters. Should the shotgun passenger have a particularly horrible taste in music, he/she can be denied shotgun by popular demand the next time a shotgun-calling situation arises.
Exceptions:
- Should the driver’s significant other be present, she shall automatically be granted shotgun no questions asked.
- Should a significant other be absent, the navigator, if there is one, has priority, however must still call shotgun — the navigator can override shotgun calls of others citing the reason of navigation.
- A driver or owner of the vehicle may void the entire practice of calling shotgun, however he or she must do so well in advance and must make sure that all potential passengers are aware of the absence of shotgun law for the relevant vehicle.

when someone calls shotgun do you have to say no challenge? Cuz i have friends the say shotgun can be challenged and resolved with rock paper scissors, unless no challenge was audibled.
i have friends that use the blitz rule what about that.
The car has to be within sight for shotgun to be called
If Rock, Paper, Scizzors is to be used if shotgun is called by 2 men and it is not clear who called it first, and the winner of the resulting race is not clear or is in dispute. It is necessary to determine before hand if the involved parties will reveal their hands on scizzors or on shoot before hand in front of a witness. Likewise, it is necessary to determine before hand whether it will be 1 out of 1, 2 out of 3, 3 out of 5, etc. If the parties tie for 5 hands in a row, the driver will decide who gets passenger seat.
the significant other rule is void if she is the ex of another passenger
The seat behind Shotgun can be called after Shotgun has already been called, caddycorner to the drivers seat. That seat is called Cobain.
Another challenge is Pants-Down Shotgun. That results in a race to the car with the pants down by the ankles.
Imperative: Must be within sight of the car
lets say that i and a group of friends are driving somewhere and we take 2 seperate cars but first we are dropping off one of the cars at a house to save gas we all would go together in one of the cars. i went in the car we would take to the place and was sitting shotgun because there was nobody else with us. then the other 2 people came and one of them calls shotgun while i was already sitting there. what happens?
An exception, if a single passenger is too large to fit in the back, under all circumstances shotgun is assumed to be given to them.
The first person to gain the passanger seat has the automatic shotgun, so another person cannot call shotgun, since you are already there.
-You win.
When there is a designated driver. The owner of the vehicle is always given shotgun if not driving.
driver can not overrule shotgun unless it is his girl. that defeats the purpose of the manlaw
also, a race to the car is a bad way of deciding shotgun, the true way to decide is a fight, preferrably UFC cage match, in which first to draw blood wins shotgun
where I’m from the back seats are “left nut” for behind the driver, “right nut” for behind the shotgun seat, and “bitch” for the back middle. all of these can be called in the same way that shotgun is called. if you are already sitting in a seat then you cannot get kicked out of that seat by someone new entering the vehicle. I agree with the size exception also, especially for people with long legs in 2 door cars. also the owner of the vehicle ALWAYS gets shotgun when not driving the vehicle. i think blitz rule (first person to grab the door handle gets the seat) is something that has to be agreed upon before hand.
whenever me or my mates came across a tie in shotgun, some idiot friend decided that the first person to punch the other person in the balls claims shotgun. good rule as i win most of the time…
everyone knows the driver has no say in who rides shotgun unless a hot girl suggests she would like to rige shotgun in which case hte driver reserves the right to deny all other passengers rides
